Frequently asked questions

When is the best time of year for exterior painting?

Exterior painting is best carried out in dry, mild weather, which in Berkshire usually means spring through to early autumn. Paint needs a dry surface and enough time to cure before rain or frost.

How often does the outside of a house need repainting?

It depends on the surface, the paint used and how exposed the house is. Woodwork and walls that take the most sun and rain tend to need attention sooner. Martin can advise when he visits to quote.

Does exterior painting need planning permission?

Repainting the outside of a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings and some properties in conservation areas are the exception, and the local council can confirm whether consent is needed.

What happens if the woodwork is damaged?

Small areas of damage are filled and primed as part of the preparation. If timber needs replacing, Martin will point it out when he quotes so it can be dealt with before painting.

Do you paint front doors?

Yes. Doors, frames and surrounds are prepared and painted. There is an example in the gallery.

Is the quote free?

Yes. Martin visits, looks over the surfaces and prices the work. Quotes are free.
